Op vrijdag 5 juli sloot de PThU haar deuren aan de Oude Ebbingestraat. Er waren speeches van studenten, (oud)docenten en van de voorzitter van de Algemene Kerkenraad, Josha Veger.

Er waren opvallend veel alumni gekomen, veel studenten die inmiddels predikant zijn geworden. Het zegt iets over de goede tijd die men heeft gehad in Groningen. Zowel met betrekking tot het gebouw, waar het goed studeren en werken was, als de omgeving waar theologie verbonden kon worden met het dagelijks leven. De oprichting van het Platform Kerk en Aardbeving is een goed voorbeeld en natuurlijk de inzet van tientallen studenten die hun stage ergens in een van de kerken in en rondom Groningen hebben gedaan.

In een korte viering zong het Agricola Consort, dat met veel plezier jarenlang kon repeteren in het gebouw. Het gebed (in Groningen waren de middaggebeden altijd in het Engels) verwoordt de dankbaarheid voor de tijd in Groningen en de opdracht om licht in de wereld en zout der aarde te zijn.

We are grateful for all the years that we could gather
under this roof,
that we could join in together in the chapel,
for singing, praying, meditating,
with Your word of love, justice and peace as our leading words in life.

We are grateful for colleagues of the Faculty of Religion, Culture and Society.
For the way we could collaborate in different fields of theology.

We are grateful for students who learned to broaden their views on many subjects.
Coming from different parts of the world,
they taught us so much about living religion.

We are grateful for everyone who facilitated a good environment for studying, for doing research.

We are grateful for the churches in and around Groningen who hosted staff and students.

We pray, bless every one of us, in our personal life, in the work we do, in the journeys we make around the globe.

We pray, bless the work that has to be done in the coming months,
that we will keep in mind
that maybe here at this place the door will be closed,
but a window will be opened in Utrecht.

For the world we live in, we pray, Eternal God,
hear our worries about what happens in our society,
what happens in the world.

That we will not hesitate to stand up against injustice
and that we will contribute
to a world that holds love, justice and peace.

In your light we see light,
that we may spread the light
that we may be the salt of the earth,
Remembering the promise of your Kingdom to come.
